AHA Training Center

Sanford Medical Center Worthington's (SMCW) Training Center (TC) serves as a regional liaison to the American Heart Association, implementing Emergency Cardiovascular Care science and education in the community as well as maintaining an instructor data base and performing quality assurance activities. The SMCW TC also acts as the regional resource for AHA instructors and does the following for affiliated instructors: 

  • Keeps records of AHA instructor certifications
  • Maintains records of all student course rosters
  • Issues certification cards to instructors
  • Provides AHA support materials at reasonable prices
  • Stocks and special orders AHA texts and materials
  • Serves as a resource for instructors
  • Provides information concerning AHA Policies and Guidelines
  • Maintains relationships with Regional Faculty Members for each of the disciplines
Instructors interested in joining the SMCW AHA Training Center should call the TC Coordinator, Kathi Haberman, RN, Education Manager at (507) 372-3256. There is currently no charge to belong to the training center as an individual or as a training site.

Courses Offered
As a designated TC, SMCW provides training for health care professionals and community members.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Heartsaver CPR and Heartsaver AED
  • CPR for Family and Friends
  • Automated External Defibrillation (AED) Training
  • Heartsaver First Aid
  • Heartsaver First Aid for Daycare Providers

General Policies
The SRWH TC complies with all policies and procedures outlined in the AHA Program Administration Manual.

Cancellation Policy
A. Refunds will be made in full if cancellation is received one week prior to the start of the course and the course materials are returned.
B. A handling fee of 25 percent will be deducted if the cancellation is received less than one week prior to the start of the course.
C. No shows are non-refundable
D. Full refunds will be given for all classes canceled by SMCW for any reason.

Renewal courses
Individuals attending a renewal course in BLS, PALS, or ACLS are required to send a copy of their current card before attending a renewal. If an individual’s certification has recently expired, the CT coordinator may waive this requirement. However, no remediation of the written test or skills demonstration is allowed and the individual will be required to take a provider course to become re-certified.
