Diabetes Education
Sanford Medical Center Worthington (SMCW) has a Diabetes Self-Management Program that strives to answer the education needs of people with diabetes. Educators Mary Hesemann, RN & CDE (Certified Diabetes Educator) and Michelle Poppen, RD (Registered Dietitian), comprise the team that provides instruction to patients and their families in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Hesemann is also a CPT (Certified Pump Trainer) who assists those interested in an insulin pump and/or continuous glucose monitoring. Classes are offered in both English and Spanish and include topics such as diet, exercise, medication and complication prevention.
SMCW's diabetes program is recognized by the American Diabetes Association which gives assurance that it meets or exceeds national standards for diabetes education. This status also enhances the likelihood of Medicare and insurance coverage. For more information, please call (507) 372-3378 or (507) 372-3329.
