Sanford Regional Hospital Worthington’s Laboratory (lab) staff consists of Medical Technologists (MT) and Medical Lab Technicia
ns (MLT). It is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
If a patient needs a transfusion of blood product, the SRWH lab keeps a supply of extra blood cell units on hand from the Community Blood Bank of Sioux Falls. After the patient's blood type is determined, a unit of blood of the same type is tested with the patient's blood to make sure they are compatible. All the units of blood are tested according to FDA requirements at Sanford USD Medical Center before they are sent to our facility.
